Hi Shenna -- Thanks so much for writing. I'LL LOVE YOU TILL I DIE was one of my favorite books, but I liked CRIMSON RAIN, too. There are so many of them now, it's hard to choose favorites. Have you really read them ALL? Well, hang on, then. The next one's out in April/May. Not too long now. Best, Meg

Valerie -- I should have checked before telling you that Shadow of Innocence was Crimson Rain. It's actually The Last Cheerleader, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense as far as the book is concerned -- but there you go. It seems the title The Last Cheerleader wasn't something the editors in the UK thought their readers would relate to. I don't know...maybe they don't have cheerleaders over there? Best, Meg
MEG O'BRIEN

Hi Valerie -- Thanks for writing. Yes, there is a book of mine called Shadow of Innocence, but beware -- that's the UK title they put on a book that was published here in the US under another name -- I think it was Crimson Rain. If you scroll down through these Guest notes, you'll see where someone else asked about it, and I mentioned there that it was Crimson Rain -- if I'm remembering correctly. Sometimes other countries put different titles and covers on my books, and readers buy them thinking they're something they haven't read -- which isn't at all fair, but who listens to the lowly writer? I guess maybe that worked in the days before the internet, because people in other countries usually wouldn't have read the ones from the US. But now, we're just one big happy world-wide family. :-) Again, thanks for writing, and for asking. My book THE FINAL KILL comes out in May, 2006, if you can hold out till then. Or, check my website Books page for the list of older suspense books and mysteries that can still be found on used-book sites. They aren't really that old, in fact all of them were published in the 90's. Best wishes, Meg

Hi Amanda -- I'm sorry, but I don't know when the next book will be out in the UK. The next one here in the US is THE FINAL KILL; it will be out next May. Usually the UK gets it at the same time or at least within the year, but I never hear about it until they send me a copy. They also don't tell me if it'll be under another name or the same, or what the cover will look like. You might want to check now and then on Amazon.uk, to see if they have a new book listed. Then, by what they say about it on the same page, you should be able to tell if it's a book you've already read. Publishers don't make it easy for readers to buy books, do they? I've always said if I had cabbages to sell, I'd rush them out to market and put a big sign above them, then stand in the road and hawk them. Book publishsers, though? Much as I love them, they're still back in the 1800s when it comes to some things! But thanks for asking. Best wishes, Meg

Hi Tessa! Thanks for writing all the way from Finland! It sounds as if you're having a wonderful spring. I'd love to see Finland some day. And I'm glad you're learning the English language by reading my books--but you know, in fiction, grammar is not always quite right! We authors take a lot of liberties with grammar, depending on how our heroines and villains "talk" to us in our heads! I am glad you enjoy the books, though. Please keep in touch. Best wishes, Meg

Hi, all -- Thanks so much for your wonderful comments about my books and site. I've been a bit under the weather the past month or so, and therefore slow to answer. I hope you don't mind if I answer everyone at once, to save energy. I especially wanted to say, for the person who asked, that SHADOW OF INNOCENCE is the same book as THE LAST CHEERLEADER. It was published in the UK under that title, and I'm sorry for the confusion. We authors don't have anything to say about it when the publishers do that, but I know how irritating it can be to buy a book and find you've already read it. I hope whatever booksellers you've bought SOI from will take them back, if that's the case. Thanks again, and please excuse the shortness of this note. This is my third try at it; I'm on someone else's computer, and the keyboard is very different. I kept deleting all this before I could send it! Best wishes to all, Meg

Hi Vicky: Thanks very much for your comments below. I'm glad you enjoyed Sacred Trust. (But hmmm, let's see now...are you reading books DURING the lectures, or just in between?) :-) Sacred Trust was a lot of fun to write, especially as I was living in Carmel then -- and what a great place to live. Hi, everyone -- Just a brief note to thank you for your responses about my search for a dog (see email below). I did find one a few weeks ago, a five month old Papillon, 7 lbs. and a boy. He's a sweet little guy and let's me sleep at night, which is possibly the best thing about him, as I'm a goner without sleep. :-) We're still figuring out some things, but I think we're settling in pretty well together. The housetraining's the hardest part, of course, and I'm training him to use a litter box, which makes it even harder. He's starting to "get it," though. (Or is it me who's starting to "get it"?! Meanwhile, I'm working on my next book, THE FINAL KILL, which'll be out next September from MIRA Books. Casey is great while I'm working -- just sits in his crate (a good-sized one) in the living room and chews on his rawhide bones. Never hear a peep out of him, so when I've finished a couple of hours of work, I go get him and we play. His energy is boundless. Wish mine was! Thanks again, and best wishes to all of you! -- Meg

THIS IS A PERSONAL APPEAL, FROM ME TO MY READERS: My wonderful little dog had to be put down last week due to illness, and now that I'm at least starting to come out of the mourning phase, I'm looking to fill up that hole in my heart and home. I'd like to find a young toy cockapoo or Papillon to adopt. (Not necessarily a puppy, but a bit older, housebroken, and in good health with a nice disposition.) I live in the Seattle area, and if anyone knows of a dog like this that's up for adoption or for sale at a reasonable price, I would be very grateful if you'd let me know on this Guest Book or at mg1obrien@yahoo.com. I've scoured Petfinder and the area newspaper ads, ads online, the shelters, etc., for days, and it seems hard to find either of these breeds available from good homes where they've been treated well. (Not that there aren't some; it's just hard to know.) I've also talked with some area breeders, and some are good, some are questionable. Pet stores usually get their dogs from puppymills, which I abhore, so they're out. Thanks very much for reading this and for helping. Meg

Hi, Pat: How exciting to hear you've come across THIN ICE! That was my second suspense novel, after having written 5 mysteries in a series. I loved writing THIN ICE, loved the mythology, and the science. Regarding the AIDS info, I was taken to task by a San Francisco Chronicle reviewer for one theory I wrote about -- even though I'd researched it thoroughly and gave credit in the book to the well-known scientist who developed the theory. The reviewer said it was "my" theory, and that it was stupid. I never react to reviews, but I sure did want to, to this one, because to me it rang true and was well worth having science research it further. THIN ICE is out of print now, but it's available through the used and rare book dealers on the internet. I'm so glad you "brought it to life" again. And thanks for writing and telling me you enjoyed it! Best wishes, Meg

Hi Sherry! I'm glad you liked THE LAST CHEERLEADER. I'm still writing the next book, which will be out next year. It's called THE FINAL KILL (that title may change), and it's sort of a sequel to SACRED TRUST, which came out in 2000. It takes place in Carmel, California, it's about the same people, same locale -- but different plot, of course! SACRED TRUST involved the Secret Service, and I'm branching out with this one by involving the FBI and the CIA. You think maybe they'll learn to work together? :-) -- Meg

Hi, Lee: Thanks so much for writing such good things about CRIMSON RAIN. I wanted to do a sequel right away, but my publisher is cautious about sequels. They like to see how well a book does before they commit to a second one. So I wrote THE LAST CHEERLEADER instead. My next book, though, THE FINAL KILL, is a "sequel" of sorts to SACRED TRUST. SACRED TRUST has done so well, they were willing (finally, after 3 other books!) to have me write about the same people, same locale, again. i'm still writing THE FINAL KILL, and it should come out next year. Dear Rachel: I'm so sorry you bought the same book under another title. I know how disappointing that can be. As I recall, The Last Cheerleader was only published in the UK under that title, so it was a different printing in another country. Unfortunately, you couldn't have known that. I think they renamed it in the UK because they thought Shadow of Innocence was a better title for their readers. I, and most authors, have no say in the matter when the title is changed like that by the publisher. I wish we did, because the same thing has happened to me as happened to you. Even when the title is the same, some publishers issue the same book with different covers, which to me can be confusing as well. Thank you very much for expressing your disappointment about this. I hope it won't stop you from buying my books in the future, though. They've never been retitled like that in the US, only in other countries. Best, Meg

Hi, Rowena: I'm glad you liked Crimson Rain and the twisty ending. You can find all of my MIRA books in the UK now, and possibly some of my Jessica James mystery series, either used or in libraries. The Women's Press in London reprinted the first four in the series as well as the original of book 5, A Bright Flamingo Shroud. Good luck! Best, Meg

Iam writing an essay on your novel, and I was wondering if you would be able to help me out on the conflicts and atmosphere. I talked about the conflict with Noami and Susan and the relationship between Adam and Susan, but if you would be able to help me out I would really appriciate that! Thanks so much!

I have just finished reading 'Crimson Rain' and thought I would let you know how much I enjoyed it. The book was a welcome distraction from the probmlems of everyday life. As things have changed dramatically for me over the last three years, reading has become an important part of my life. I must add, I was most glad Al Duarte and his cat Lazybones did not die in your story as I had warmed to them as charactors. Anyway, I look forward to reading your other novels. Hi, Tracey: Thanks so much for your kind words about my books. I'm glad you enjoy them and that I've got another fan! I just finished a new book, titled: THE LAST CHEERLEADER. It comes out in December. It's about Mary Beth Conahan, a literary agent in Los Angeles. Everything's going great for her until an author and ex-husband are murdered. And what about her old friend, Lindy Lou, who used to be the most envied girl in high school, and a popular cheerleader? Lindy's got trouble, and it all leads to an astonishing secret that changes Mary Beth's life forever. :-) That's the first time I ever wrote a cover blurb in an email! Thanks again for writing. You inspired me! Best, Meg

Hi, Debbie: I'm glad you enjoyed Gathering Lies. If you want to read any of my out of print books (5 suspense novels and 5 in a mystery series), the Island County library system may have them. I need to go down there and donate a few more, though. At one time they had all the out of print ones, but they probably got worn out and given to the Friends of the Library sale! There's a list of them on the Books page of this website, at the end. Thanks for the word about Waldenbooks up in Burlington. I talked with a salesperson recently who left a message for the manager. I told them I'd be happy to do a signing, anytime. And thanks again for writing. It's always good to hear from you! Meg

Hi, everyone: I'd like to thank all of you for the wonderful support you've given me here in my Guest Book. I answer all Guest Book entries, and usually I ask people to stay in touch. If you've been emailing me at meg@megobrien.com, though, I'm afraid it hasn't been working for a long time. I check it every now and then, sending an email to myself on the link marked "E-Mail". The email never comes through, and I'm told by my host that they've been having trouble with other authors' email sites as well. So until this gets fixed, I'd love it if you'd write to me in this Guest Book. I check it nearly every day, and I promise to answer any of your questions and comments! Dear Meg, Your Biography displays hope, fortitude and inspiration. I'm currently eeking out a ms that targets the Harlequin Intrigue line. At times the words pour out from my fingers onto the keyboard while at others, such as now, I desparately crave the inspiration to keep going. Your words and advice have done just that. I feel renewed in my determination to 'just keep on writing'. Have you ever thought of writing your autobiography? It sounds like the perfect rags to riches fantasy, filled with trials, hardships and ultimate glory...

O-o-h-h Meg!! Crimson Rain is fabulous! This is a special "Thank You" from both my Mom and myself. Mom and I both have copies and would check-in with each other as we read. This quickly led to unfinished bits of conversation between us such as: "Just wait until you read...OH, I won't say THAT...but, when you get to page (such and such)....THEN we can talk about it!" etc, etc. Every question we had, once answered, became a new question - all the way to the end! And, what an ending it is! As it happened Mom was recovering from surgery when she started Crimson Rain. She wants you to know reading your engrossing novel at that time was a real treat! We are looking forward to your next book: THE LAST CHEERLEADER! Thank you, Meg!

Hi, Meg O'Brien in Minneola, NY! I tried to send you a personal email, but for some reason it said the address wasn't valid, and it came back. Maybe you just typed it in wrong? Anyway, it was great to hear from you. Have you done a genealogy? Maybe we're connected somehow. I had all kinds of uncles who left home in their late teens and were never heard from again, blast those Irish gadabout genes! One, Willy, did send a postcard saying he was working in the diamond mines in Africa (this was a thousand years ago). One made a phone call saying he was working in a mortuary in Philadelphia. ??! After that he simply disappeared. You can see what an illustrious family line I can claim! :-) Please keep in touch. My email is megobrien@earthlink.net. And thanks for letting me know you've enjoyed my books. What do you do in publishing? Best, Meg

I heard about you from a friend who lives in the San Juans. He was kind enough to give me a copy of your latest book, "Gathering Lies". I can hardly wait to read it after all of the things that he has told me about you. I will share the book with my sister, our daughters, and grandchildren when we return to Salem. We love the San Juans and especially Shaw Island!

Hi, everyone: Thanks to all for writing in. I love hearing from you! Brad, I have books from towns all over the place, probably because I've lived all over the place--Laguna Beach, CA, Sausalito, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Paradise, CA, Carmel, CA, Rochester, NY, North Wildwood, NJ, College Park, MD...and now Seattle. I think the only place I've lived that I haven't written about--yet--is Arizona. Oh, and Ohio. (I worked at Wright-Pat, BP--Before Publication. Actually, waaaaaay Before Publication!) I love to hear from readers who've lived or are living in any of those areas, because it's like hearing from "back home." So thanks for letting me know! Meg

Meg, I love all your books, especially Gathering Lies. I also like it that some of the settings in your books are fairly close to where I live like in Sacred Trust. Can't wait till your next one! Brad

Hey, stranger, what do we have to do to receive e-mail from you? ;-) Your site's a lot of fun...but imagine it keeps you busy... maybe that's the answer to our question... We're in the process of shopping for a new computer...probably a Dell... Love you, Randy and Cathy

This is my testament about my friends mom. She is a wonderful writer and human being who has truly been blessed with a gift of writing. Meg, your books are so interesting and such compelling reading that I have to force myself to put them down. A cup of coffee and one of your books; what a wonderful combination. Keep em comin'!

Hi, Everybody: I thought I'd just sneak in here and say thanks to all of you for your great comments! They really help when one is still sitting here in her jammies at noon with a cold cup of coffee and wondering if anyone will ever read the book she's writing! You are SO great to let me know that you have and you will! Meg

I have read a few of Meg O'Briens books and they are all 'can't put down till the last page is finished' type books. I plan to keep reading her books untill there are none left and then hopefully she will write more. THANKS MEG O'BRIEN

I am an avid mystery reader. I have just started reading your books and you are wonderful. Consider me a Meg O'Brien fan. I would like to try my hand at writing one day, but right now I am a bookkeeper and take care of a 20 month old granddaughter just about full time. I am also 61 years old. So I tend to stay pretty busy. Keep writing and I'll keep reading.

Hello. I am glad that I found your website. It looks wonderful. I read "Gathering Lies" a few months back, just after the actual Seattle Earthquake. What a strange coinsidence. I really enjoyed trying to figure out who was doing all the killing. It was quite spooky. I also enjoyed Sarah Lansing's character. I have to tell you though that I still to this day have in my mind the picture of that crucifiction on the hill in Carmel from "Sacred Trust." Talk about spooky and terrifying. Wow! That was an awesome novel and a very surprising ending. I think my heart-rate went up while I was reading the ending. Can't wait for the next one.

I have read all your books and ejoyed each one immensely. Each one, as I was reading it, became my favorite. What a talent you have in writing. The suspense continues to increase with every page in each book holding the reader spellbound. When I read your books, I hate to put them down and I am looking forward to your next one. You may include me to be one of your greatest fans.

Hi, Meg: My mother is a big fan. She has all your books. When she told me about Gathering Lies I decided to read it. It was a very enjoyable book, filled with tension and a delightful premise. I find it uncanny that you wrote this book before the Seattle quake even happened. It almost seemed like you knew it was going to strike! I thought I'd let you know that you have another fan now. I enjoyed Gathering Lies so much that I've decided to begin pouring through your other books (I'm almost done with Sacred Trust and am enjoying it as much as G.L.) My Mom has been talking about you for years. She still does, but now I have to listen to "I told you so" too! Thanks, Mark
